Features and Enhancements
The R5.8.2 version provides this new feature:
Support in ADVIZOR Server AE for an ADVIZOR iPad client (currently in Beta testing; contact sales@advizorsolutions.com for more information).
Important Note: iPad support, enabled by default, is incompatible with Windows Authentication; see the Known Hints below for details on configuring security.
The R5.8 version (8/15/11) provided these new features:
Support for reading Microsoft Office Excel and Access data on 64 bit versions of Windows is now available. Support for reading these formats on 32 bit versions of Windows is unchanged. If you already have Microsoft Office installed, the version of Office present will be used. There is now no reason to use the 32 bit version of ADVIZOR Analyst on a 64 bit version of Windows (previosly only the 32 bit version of ADVIZOR Analyst read Microsoft Office data sources). (Note, however, that ADVIZOR Office versions are only available in a 32 bit version.) If you wish to read very large Office data sources on a 64 bit system, it is best to use the 64 bit version of Microsoft Office along with the 64 bit version of ADVIZOR Analyst.
The Navigation Pane is now available on ADVIOZR Server as well as the client. Navigation Panes for use on the Server must be created in RTF format (previously HTML format was required). To use existing Navigation Panes on ADVIZOR Server, the contents must be changed to RTF; see notes below for one way of doing this. Existing HTML-formatted Navigation Panes are still supported in ADVIZOR Analyst, but should not be created for new projects.
The Project Explorer has now completely replaced the Data Workshop and the Data Workshop has been removed.
3D charts are anti-aliased for better quality.
The parameters of the equation for the linear trend line are displayed in the Property Grid for the Scatter Plot. The correlation coefficient (r2) is also available.
A new "Implementation Guide" is in the product installation directory (typically c:\Program Files\ADVIZOR Solutions{Product}) and includes Platform Notes, Installation Instructions, and Databases Supported that were previously in this document. See the Implementation Guide for instructions on installing ADVIZOR Analyst, AnalystX, and Server versions.
Navigation Pane content must now be in RTF format (rather than HTML as was previously required). Instructions on migrating to this format are given below.
We strongly recommend that the 64 bit version of ADVIZOR Analyst and AnalystX be used on 64 bit versions of Windows.
Defects
Defects fixed in point release 5.8.2 include:
In ADVIZOR Server AE, the right edges of charts with vertical zoombars were obscured by the zoombar.
In ADVIZOR Server AE, many messages could pop up saying a project had expired and needed to be reloaded. This message now appears only once, and subsequent interaction attempts only dim the chart display.
In ADVIZOR Server AE, the standard Demo projects now can be loaded correctly again.
It is now possible to configure a Map chart with links between nodes.
A Scatterplot chart could cause a crash if the only non-excluded values in a numeric field were NULL.
If a field was copied between two tables, and later a selection link was created based on the same key fields, selections in one table would not affect unmatched rows in the other correctly.
Approximately 60 existing defects were fixed in release 5.8. Particular areas of focus were:
Approximately 10 faults in the Flight Recorder were repaired. The Flight Recorder now creates constraints for Maps, Goal Lines, Data Constellations, and searches in the Data/Summary Sheet.
Scores added to data tables from Prediction in Analystics seemed to be "0" when displayed in Data Sheets due to rounding of the floating point numbers; these are now shown to two decimal places.
To configure ADVIZOR Server AE 5.8.2 for Windows Authentication: The web.config file must be edited as described in the ADVIZOR Implementation Guide, but in addition you must disable iPad support by inserting comment delimiters on 3 lines in the subsection of <system.serviceModel>. The 3 lines all begin with the string "<endpoint address="/Rest"". The resulting lines should look like this:
<!-- <endpoint address="/Rest" binding="webHttpBinding" behaviorConfiguration="WebNavigatorRestServiceBehaviour" ... /> -->
All projects created with a version of ADVIZOR Analyst before R5.6 must be re-published to ADVIZOR Server
See the Implementation Guide if you are using adv2advm.
Only install ADVIZOR Server to the default location on the "C" drive. Installing to another location will cause publishing to the server to not work.
Existing Navigation Panes must be migrated from HTML format to RTF. If you originally created the Navigation Panes in Microsoft Word (or another text editor that will also write RTF files), you can re-write the files and then go to the Page Properties dialog in ADVIZOR Analyst and load the new file. If you do not have the source files, you can create them like this:
Go to each Navigation Pane in ADVIZOR Analyst.
Right click in the Navigation Pane and select "Select All" from the popup menu. Right click again and select "Copy" from the popup menu. This copies the current pane contents to the system clipboard.
Open a text editor such as Microsoft Word and paste from the clipboard.
Save the pane contents to a file of type "RTF".
Go to the Page Properties in ADVIZOR Analyst for each page with Navigation Panes and load the new files.
If you are using Microsoft Word, make sure that the Paragraph format has 0 points of space before and after paragraphs; other specifications are not followed when the text is displayed in ADVIZOR Analyst.
Only insert images that are in standard image formats such as PNG, GIF, or JPEG. Other formats may not appear if the Navigation Pane is published to ADVIZOR Server.
When submitting a problem to Technical Support, email is the preferred mechanism (support@advizorsolutions.com). In the email, please provide as many of the following as possible:
Your name & contact information including phone number
The name of the product you are using and its version number
Your license key used to install the product
A detailed explanation of what you were doing that led up to the problem.
Screen shot(s) and/or exact text of any error information
Errors are logged to a file at this location; include a copy of this file:
C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\ADVIZOR Solutions\<product name>\error.log
Or
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Application Data\ADVIZOR Solutions\error.log on Windows XP
Replace <product name> with Analyst or AnalystX, etc. as applicable to your product.
Machine's System Information file created from the "System Information" saved as type ".nfo"
Operating system's Application event log in .evt format so that we get the detailed event descriptions
If you're having a database access problem, submit all relevant DB information, including DB vendor, DB version, whether the DB is local or remote, whether or not you are able to access the DB using vendor or third party supplied query tools, etc
If you encounter an error/exception and are offered the opportunity to forward diagnostic information, please do so. However, note that you can help reduce the time to resolution by also including details of the actions that led to the event. Our ability to rapidly understand the problem is significantly increased when we know all the details.
