# Inserting a Pie Chart

The [Pie Chart](https://help.advizorsolutions.com/v7.2+/charts-and-visual-discovery/charts-overview/pie-chart) is typically used to view the relative proportions of a grouping of data (such as the percentage of sales that each region a company contributes to the company total). Data is displayed as wedges in a pie. Note that negative values are ignored.

## Inserting a New Pie Chart

A pie chart can be used to examine a grouping's proportions (such as the percentage of sales that each region a company contributes to the company total).

1. 2. If the Data Configuration form is not already showing, click the configuration button ![](https://1916279106-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-legacy-files/o/assets%2F-Lf5YcsNySU3Og8Ms9rA%2F-Lf5ZCyAZIyYzxDLDEKS%2F-Lf5ZyNEX50eI7MoXvly%2FInitConfig.png?generation=1558109763542834\&alt=media) to open the Data Configuration window. If the Data Table shown is not the one you want, use the drop-down list to select the right one.
3. Select a field from the **Field** pulldown list. This field will serve as the basis of the **Count Per Field** in the view.
4. Optionally, you can select a measure from the **Measure** pulldown list (this value is the Y axis in the Pie Chart). If you want to display the pie chart in 3-dimensional mode, place a checkmark in the **Display in 3D** checkbox.

   Click **OK.** The pie chart displays.
